Hey farmers, now your country life obsession could touch new highs. With Farmville mobile updates almost around the corner, you could be in control of your farm even when you’re away from computer. Zynga, the company behind Farmville, looks committed to end Facebook dependence for its game apps. First, it launched a dedicated website to the popular Farmville game and now it’s testing to send mobile updates to users who subscribe for the service. To start with, this will be available for Mafia Wars alone, since its text based and creates a good testing place for Zynga to check the user response and see how the service goes by targeting a small set of users. According to Zynga, they will expand the mobile update service from notifications to directing in-game actions with mobile commands. This will enable users to perform different actions on their farms using mobile commands.

This could also be a potential scam though, as Zynga is not very popular for the way it handles user data and there have been reports for privacy abuse. So, users will be hesitant to give their cell numbers to a company like Zynga. Some addicts will of course do, and it may open doors for new stream of revenues for Zynga provided they don’t storm users with unsolicited offers as they do on Facebook. They have already been focusing on virtual currency with Zong.

Then there may be some issues in Farmville becoming a brand outside Facebook. So far, the farming game has been utilizing Facebook’s huge user base and viral marketing tools. This will go missing in standalone version of Farmville. At current, Farmville.com is open for all through Facebook Connect but it won’t be much of effort to transfer them to their own network.
